Good professional development is the key to change in any organization. One must change their mindset before deep behavioral change will occur. How do we change someone's mindset, when it is often so entrenched in past practice? First, we must not fear cognitive dissonance. Conflict gives us insight into one's mindset, fears, and yes, their needs. Then, we need to help the individual to unlearn, learn, and then, relearn. Deep change takes time and, as a wise high school principal told me once, "slow is fast!" So, take your time, teach to unlearn, learn, and relearn, and seek the help of a professional.
