![]() Reading Workshop in the Common Core:
Don't feel like you have to abandon the Reading Workshop philosophy! In fact, due to the new requirements of ELA State Standardized Assessments such as PARCC, Smarter Balanced and the various other assessments developed by states, now is the the time to implement that Reading Workshop approach. Call me and I'll converse with you as to how this can be done. Not only will I provide the training, but I'll coach your teachers through the process and provide follow up sessions as well. This innovative approach to reading instruction is something both students and teachers absolutely love and it is differentiation at its finest! |
Making the Common Core,
well... Common! Are your teachers trying to read "those standards" and getting very confused? It's going to be o.k....tell them I said so. Tell them you called me and I'm coming there, and when I get there, I'll show them how to transform the Common Core State Standards into something practical and doable in their classrooms. They'll leave with an understanding they can apply into immediate instructional practice. Then, I'll visit their rooms and either team teach with them, model some lessons for them or coach them toward success. Whatever they need, I'll be there to support them. They call the shots. So, do yourself and your teachers a favor. Call me. So together, we can make the Common Core ... common... and align all of the instruction to those standards, (and reduce the anxiety in your educational organization). And when we're done, your teachers will have productive, rigorous classrooms, your students will have learned how to think and process, and you won't need that bottle of ibuprofen anymore! |
Just in case you were wondering...
Where does one begin when trying to implement the CCSS?First, begin by looking at the Common Core State Standards supporting documents for both MATH and ELA. Most educators want to dive right into those standards! How tempting!!! Be careful...make sure you read those supporting documents first. Those documents provide an overview as to how the standards are written. You'll also learn about the difference between the Math Standards and the ELA Standards. Once you achieve this understanding, then you should dive into those standards. All of this will impact your work in the classroom. |
Is there a resource for teachers to help them increase in their effectiveness as they implement the CCSS?Good question! I LOVE this question!!! Did you know that the Council of Chief State School Officers released model standards for teachers that support the implementation of the CCSS's? Well, they did! They are called InTASC standards! (InTASC stands for Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium.) This Consortium developed Model standards and Learning Progressions that demonstrate how teachers can successfully lead students toward implementing the Common Core State Standards. To get a better look at the InTASC Model Core Teaching Standards and Learning Progressions, click on this link. You will be delighted at what you read. This is the most comprehensive model for teacher effectiveness I have ever seen! This model truly leads teachers toward developing students into independent learners who will know their own strengths and needs by the time they graduate from our school systems.
